The business world has changed drastically in the past twenty years with even more dramatic changes brought about in the past two years. Businesses that are still using traditional approaches might find themselves outmaneuvered by happenings in their environments.

The environment is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (vuca) and although this brings instability, it also brings opportunities. It is time to vuka (wake-up) and seize these opportunities.

Guest speaker profile: Karel Marais

Karel Marais is the Program Manager, School of Management at the IIE's Varsity College where he specialises in management, leadership, and entrepreneurship. He holds undergrad and postgraduate qualifications in Human Resource Management, as well as an MBA from the University of the Free State and is currently completing a Masters in Higher Education from Stellenbosch University. Karel has worked for the government and the private sector both locally and internationally as an employee and consultant. He has owned and managed his own business and has a passion for small business and plays a consultant role for small and start-up companies.
