Event Details
1 July 2021 is the POPIA deadline in South Africa.
The Cape Chamber's Innovation and Digital Portfolio Committee is excited to announce two extremely successful and innovative guest speakers coming to your zoom desk and invite you to engage with them in innovation conversations.
After the POPIA commencement date or effective date 01 July 2020 there is a 12-month grace period. Given this long period of time, it is unlikely that the information regulator will extend or delay the POPI compliance deadline.
South African companies will be impacted by one or both of the General Data Protection Regulation, (GDPR) in the European Union, and the Protection of Personal Information Act (often called the POPI Act or POPIA) in South Africa.
Attending this session will highlight the history, differences and impact of personal privacy law on South African organisations.
- Mr. Thomas Reisenberger, Head of the Regulations Department at Legalese, Cape Town. Thomas is an admitted attorney with a global firm background. He brings regulation and compliance expertise to Legalese, especially in burgeoning industries depending on the internet and data.
- Thomas will focus on POPIA's fundamental features and explain general POPIA Compliance.
- Mr. Tai Chesselet, Co-founder and joint Chief Executive Officer at Irontree and the driving force behind GDPR365. GDPR365 was started by lifelong software entrepreneurs who have built successful cloud-based businesses involving large volumes of sensitive personal data, and are therefore well-versed in the risks involved with managing data privacy.
- Tai will focus on GDPR compliance and how that will affect our members trading with Europe and also how GDPR has influenced POPIA in SA.
This is an event not to be missed!
