The Information Regulator (South Africa) is, among others, empowered to monitor and enforce compliance by public and private bodies with the provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)

The Cape Chamber's Innovation and Digital Portfolio Committee is privileged to host Professor Sizwe Lindelo Mtuze, a member of the South African Information Regulator (SAIR) at our next meeting via your zoom desk and invite you to engage with him.

Professor Mtuze is also a member of the Films and Publication Appeal Board (FPAB) since 2017, co-editor and author of the 3rd Edition of Cyberlaw @ SA 3 and currently involved in the writing of 4th Edition Cyberlaw @ SA 4 which is scheduled for release later this year. He is also a member of the CyberBRICS Advisory Board and an Examiner for the Legal Practice Council (LPC) for the Attorneys Admission Examiner.

Professor Mtuze will share information on:

• The grace period granted to public and private bodies to comply is until 1 July 2021
• The importance about putting compliance processes and measures in place
• The action which the Information Regulator can take
• The serious reputational damage non-compliance can result in, against a public or private body
• The Information Regulator's assessment of the compliance in respect to the revised WhatsApp Privacy Policy
