Guest Speaker Profile:
Ilse du Plessis is a Director in the Intellectual Property (IP) department of ENSafrica, specialising in the field of trade marks and other IP matters.
Her experience includes all matters concerned with strategic trade mark portfolio management, including trade mark searches, filings, maintenance and audits, with particular emphasis on foreign and African trade marks. Ilse is one of the foremost attorneys experienced in dealing with trade mark filing and prosecution matters across Africa. She has a wealth of knowledge of the relevant laws, trade mark regimes and practical considerations on the continent. Ilse also acts in transactional IP matters, including IP due diligence investigations, licensing and transfers.
She has acted for various local and international companies in the banking, insurance, corporate, telecommunications, food and liquor, hospitality, automotive, pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors. Ilse is a member of IP associations including INTA, the International Trade Mark Association, where she has also served on and acted as co-chair of various subcommittees over the years.
Ilse is consistently ranked highly by WTR 1000 (South Africa) for prosecution and strategy, in Acquisition International Magazine for Most Influential Woman in IP Law, by Managing Intellectual Property (IP Stars) as Trade Mark Star (South Africa) and recommended by Legal 500.
She is best known for her responsiveness and efficiency in dealing with large multijurisdictional trade mark projects across Africa.
