The Economic & Finance Portfolio Committee will be hosting Ms Lindsay Coetzee, a SARS Educator at the Taxpayer Engagement – Education Division.


The Covid-19 pandemic has seen many businesses working remotedly and employees creating home offices. To that end, SARS will be briefing business and employees how they are able to claim tax relief. To qualify for these tax relief, employees are required to be familiar with guidelines on how to claim their benefits, while still remaining tax compliant and avoiding penalties.


The meeting will cover:

  • How and when to claim home office expense deduction
  • Calculating a home office deduction
  • Home office & capital gains tax
  • Recordkeeping


With the tax season in full swing, SARS will also be discussing Auto Assessments and what taxpayers should know.

  • What are auto assessments, to whom does it apply and what is the purpose thereof
  • What are the new features for the 2021 tax season
  • To accept / not accept auto assessments
  • SARS Assistance
