Millions of people throughout South Africa want and need to learn new skills.
A percentage are learners or students in school or college , whilst others are individuals already employed who need to improve the skills they have and also learn new ones.
The Cape Chamber's Human Resources Portfolio Committee invites you to engage with:
- The Manufacturing, Engineering, and Related Services SETA as well as Transport Education Training Authority
The above-mentioned SETAs will share information on their:
- WSP data and sector skills identified as scarce in the labour market
- Processes and timeframes for the year ahead (all the usual, e.g., learnerships, grants, etc)
- What each SETA proposes to do to create alignment between themselves, educational institutions (vocational education, e.g.) and employers

Malcolm Alexander โ TETA
Malcolm has been with TETA 17 years in the role Education, Training and Development Practitioner (ETDP) for maritime nationally and Western Cape provincially. Prior to this he was in SA Navy, from submarine chef, mechanic, instructor and training evaluator. He is responsible for both Mandatory and Discretionary grants in his sector. Malcolm has a MA Development studies and his focus was small fishing company participation with TETA.
Tembelani Blouw โ merSETA
Tembelani Blouw is the Client liaison officer for Merseta born in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape.
He has worked for 16 years in VWSA in Uitenhage and in his time there he grab all opportunities that came my way to grow. Tembelani qualified as a Tool, jig, and die maker in 2012 and also acquired a Leadership certificate through Nelson Mandela Metro University in 2009.
In his time in Eastern Cape, he was also involved in a community-building project in which he ended up forming his own Soccer team which is still operational and he is so proud of that achievement. Moreover, that has also helped him to understand how to work with different kinds of people and that skill helps him to perform better in his current job.
As a tradesman, Tembelanis technical ability gives him more advantage to excel in giving advice to their clients on how their workshop must look like in order to be able to train. And as a person that has been groomed in the industry, it also helps to solve conflict among learners and employers as he himself has gone through that experience.
